Contractor Spotlight: One on One with Jason from Hull’s HVAC

At ServiceWhale we are privileged to work with so many talented contractors. We have gotten to know them on a professional, as well as a personal level and we’d like to give everyone the opportunity to learn a little more about them too. Recently we sat down to speak with Jason Hull, owner and operator of Hull’s HVAC in Philadelphia, PA about his business and his experience using ServiceWhale.

ServiceWhale:  Jason, how did you get started in HVAC?

Jason HullJason Hull:  I started out when I was just thirteen years old. My grandfather was a master welder and I worked for him.

SW:  It’s wonderful that you could work with your grandfather and learn from him. Have you been working in the field all this time?

JH:  No. I worked in finance for a little bit: however, I really wanted to get back working with my hands so I put myself through trade school and graduated at the top of my class. After graduating, I started at the bottom of the rung – shoveling all the trash and pretty much carrying all the heavy stuff.  I worked for multiple companies. Every place I worked was an opportunity to learn. I learned as much as I could, as fast as I could. I was able to take a low to mid level company from bankruptcy to being #15 in the tri-state area.  Eventually I got tired of making a ton of money for companies that really didn’t care about their clients so I started my own company. I wanted to keep the mom and pop shop. To have great customer service. I would rather give up profits to have superior customer service.

SW:  That’s great! When did you start your company?

JH: I started the company 4 years ago in 2011.

SW: You said you were at the top of the class when attending school, what trade school did you attend”?

JH:  CHI

SW: How did you hear about ServiceWhale?

JH: Nick, ServiceWhale’s business development manager, got in touch with me and told me about the company and the service it offers; it sounded good to me.

SW: How do you drive leads and web traffic?

JH: I’m working with someone doing SEO and also have listings on  Angie’s List, the Better Business Bureau and Home Advisor.

SW: What is your typical cost to acquire a new customer?

JH: Too much! But off the top of my head, I don’t really know the dollar amount.

SW: What do you like about ServiceWhale?

JH: The fact that the customer can see my prices upfront.

SW: So you believe that showing the customer your price is important and beneficial to you as a contractor?

JH: Yes, absolutely. With ServiceWhale, you know what you’re are dealing with – there are no surprises.   There’s no “oh we’re going to go for this” and then you get there and next thing you know its “we didn’t know about this, this or this and that’s more money”. The price is upfront, nothing to hide.

as you know...
Every price on ServiceWhale is negotiable. That means you can always find the best deal on your project!

SW:  Thank you for your time.  It has been a pleasure talking with you.
