Count the number of people in your household. If you live alone, count the number of bedrooms, and then add one. In a four-bedroom home, for example, that number would be five.
3. Multiply the number (5) by 12 (the estimated number of gallons of hot water each person uses).
In this case, 5 x 12 = 60. So, you’ll need a 60-gallon hot water tank, generally speaking.
