Painting a Ceramic Tile Floor

There are many ways to add flare to a house to make it seem new and give a brighter feel to a room or the whole house. Of course you could buy drapes or new furniture or paint the walls, but why not be a little different? Painting the floors in your home can add attitude, personalization and a great conversation starter to your room. ServiceWhale can be sure to do all of those things you need for your home, including paint the floor. Here are some tips to help make sure things aren’t too tedious if you’re looking for a new DIY project.

The Process of Painting a Floor

Alright, you’re going to want to make sure that you find a color that is not overbearing to your room. Although you want a color that is going to stand out and add the pizazz you’re looking for, you’re not seeking to blind yourself or any of your guests when they walk in. Before you begin, make sure that you sand and clean the floor.

The goal for sanding the floor is to make the floor rough enough so that the primer that will be added next sticks to the floor and makes way for the paint. When cleaning the floor, make sure that the floor is dry before the primer is added. This may take a day or two, so make sure and be patient. If you find that sanding the floor is not going as well as you had hoped, please don’t continue to add the primer and paint anyway. Contact a professional on ServiceWhale so your house isn’t ruined.

After you’ve applied the primer, go ahead and sand again so that every coat after this looks how you want it. It’s a lot of work, but a floor as close to perfect as possible the first time will keep you from having to do this again anytime soon. Finally, it’s time for the color! Before you just dump it on the floor, make sure again that you’re happy with the color. Find a secluded corner to give it a test. Once you are satisfied, you can paint the whole floor.

Now, it’s time to let it dry. Don’t be afraid of the floor looking dull or thinking there isn’t enough paint on them, because we’re going to add a couple more coats of paint, with about a day in between each coat.

After the final coat of color is added, now is the time to add the shine. Waiting about 24 hours in-between each coat, apply one to two coats of poly-urethane to add a shining sparkle to your now perfect floor.

DIY Alternative

After the shine is dry, you’re finally finished! This process takes about a week with the way that we recommend it, so this isn’t really the ideal DIY project if you’re in search for immediate gratification. A ServiceWhale contactor can do this for you worry free, hassle free, without harm to the environment and without a doubt everything will be perfect the first time around.
